Spring Cleaning Your Outdoor Hot Tub – 3 Simple Steps

OUR HOT TUB BLOG

If your outdoor space is looking dusty and dirty after the winter months, then it’s time for some spring cleaning.

Here are the steps to take to get your outdoor hot tub and backyard ready for summer:

Step #1 – Clean Your Outdoor Hot Tub

Start by cleaning your outdoor hot tub…

1. The Cover

Once you’ve removed the hot tub cover, use a damp rag to wipe it down. Apply a non-abrasive cover cleaner across the surface and allow it to sit for a few minutes.

Wipe it clean with warm water and then apply a vinyl protectant if you don’t have a cover cap. This both conditions the cover and protects it from UV rays.

2. The Filter

If your spa’s filter is more than a year old, this is a good time to replace it. If it hasn’t reached the 12-month mark, a good cleaning is sufficient. Spray between each fold of the filter with a hose to dislodge dirt.

3. Clean

Drain your hot tub and wipe it down using a damp cloth. Use a non-foaming cleaner to get it sparkling. Don’t forget to clean the jets!

Avoid household products that can damage your spa in favor of an actual hot tub cleaner.

4. Refill

Rinse your spa out to get rid of cleaner residue and refill it. Don’t forget to test and adjust the levels as needed with your spa chemicals.

Step #2 – Clean Your Patio Furniture

Now that you’re on a roll, you may as well clean your patio furniture.

1. Clean

With the exception of wood and wicker, patio furniture can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. Wicker is best served with an oil-based soap while wood furniture should be wiped with a damp cloth.

2. Update

Now that your furniture is clean, you can easily give it a facelift. Wooden furniture can be sanded and given a new coat of stain while wicker, metal or iron are easily made over with spray paint.

If your cushions are in decent shape, simply brush them free of dust. If they’re super dirty, you may want to splurge and buy new ones.

Step #3 – Clean Your Barbecue

Now it’s time for your barbecue.

1. Soak

Once you’ve disconnected the propane or gas, pull out your grill, grates and grease pan and stick them in a bucket of hot soapy water to soak.

2. Scrub

Put on some work gloves and, using a metal-bristled brush, scrub the hood and sides of your barbecue before wiping the walls and hood with a damp cloth.

3. Wash

Remove the grill, grates and other pieces from the bucket where they’re soaking and scrub them clean with the brush.

4. Spray

Spray away all remaining soap and grime and dry the parts to prevent rust before putting them back into the barbecue.

Now that your yard is summer-ready, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
